Meet the 13 DFW-Small Businesses on Season 12 of PBS Series START UP
One of the most meaningful projects I've worked on was leading the media outreach for START UP, a television series showcasing local entrepreneurs and startups. Season 12, only the second season to be filmed entirely in one market, was shot in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. Over the course of two months, I secured coverage in outlets such as NBC5, FOX4, CW33, The Dallas Morning News, Dallas Voice, Fort Worth Inc., CultureMap, Dallas Innovates, and Fort Worth Report. Airing nationwide, START UP highlights the resilience of American small business owners and inspires others to pursue their dreams. It was an honor to contribute to sharing these impactful stories, combining my media experience with a passion for storytelling. |
In my role, I also help clients build credibility and recognition in their industries by nominating them for awards. For example, two of my clients were named to the 2024 Dallas Business Journal’s C-Suite Leaders Awards. This involves identifying opportunities, crafting compelling nominations and highlighting their accomplishments to showcase their leadership and impact. It’s rewarding to help clients achieve this level of recognition, often for those who may not brag about themselves, further solidifying their place as industry leaders.

From the Battlefield to the Fairways: PXG Dallas Fitter Helps Purple Heart Recipient Find the Perfect Fit
One of the aspects of my job that I truly enjoy is the opportunity to showcase inspiring stories, such as how PXG supports veterans in finding solace on the golf course. Sgt. Leonard Anderson's journey took a remarkable turn during his second tour in Iraq, where an IED left him with physical injuries and emotional scars, ultimately earning him a Purple Heart Award. His passion for golf played a pivotal role in his recovery, providing him with both physical and mental stimulation. However, finding clubs that catered to his unique needs proved challenging. Jay McIlroy, one of the experienced fitters and certified club builders at PXG Dallas, did not hesitate to help Sgt. Anderson, taking the time to understand his unique needs. Jay went the extra mile, taking the clubs home after work to adjust club lengths, lofts, and lies to accommodate Sgt. Anderson’s prosthetics, stance and swing. The result was a set of golf clubs that felt like a natural extension of Sgt. Anderson’s body, allowing him to regain his confidence and continue his path to recovery. Drafting case studies like this one allows me to leverage my creativity and journalistic background to bring meaningful stories to light. |
Why Younger Generations Are Shying Away From Health Insurance
One element I always enjoyed about working in news was the constant opportunity to learn about new topics, a passion that seamlessly transitions into my career in public relations. I thrive on working with diverse clients and relish the chance to continually expand my knowledge. Using my news background, I excel at translating complex concepts like healthcare coverage into clear and concise written and oral communication, including drafting bylines for trade publications. |
Local baker brings all the flavor and culture to her business
Transitioning away from news has not stopped me from being on the set of many segment shoots. Drawing from my experience on the other side, I possess a strong understanding of what goes into a compelling pitch and can captivate a producer's attention. Media relations is a large portion of my current role, including crafting impactful messaging and securing targeted media coverage. I especially enjoy uncovering the human interest stories within my clients' businesses, like Caked by Shef, who infuses her Indian heritage into crafting custom cakes. |
